When you decide to undergo plastic surgery, you are putting yourself first and creating the image you want to show to the world. And you are not alone. For the first time ever, Americans spent more than $13.5 billion on aesthetic procedures in one year, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Rhinoplasty procedures, more commonly known as nose jobs, are among these procedures.
As the Rhinoplasty surgeon Kentucky trusts, we want our patients to feel as amazing as possible after their procedure. The following tips will help you recover as quickly as possible after your surgery.
- Safely control pain. Some pain and swelling is normal following your procedure, so you can control it to make yourself more comfortable. Your doctor may give you a prescription, but you can also use over-the-counter medications as well. If you have any health concerns, your surgeon can tell you which medications to avoid.
- Change your gauze. Following your procedure, the surgeon will likely place a small piece of gauze under your nose to catch blood and other fluids. You may need to change this every couple of hours during the first day or two, so make sure it is clean.
- Be gentle with your nose. Your nose will likely be swollen and bruised after your procedure, so do what you can to protect it. This may involve sleeping differently at first, sitting out of certain sports, and simply avoiding contact. The nose might swell when you exercise, but it should reduce after.
- Keep your nose moist. Your nasal passages need moisture to heal, so avoid dry environments whenever possible. You may also consider sleeping with a humidifier and using nasal sprays.
- Call your doctor with questions. If you have a fever over 100 degrees, are experiencing excess bleeding, or have any other concerns, call your surgery center right away. They will advise your next step to ensure your nose heals well.
Following your procedure, your doctor will detail specific care instructions. Be sure to follow these closely and report any issues. By putting your healing first, your rhinoplasty procedure will be more successful, allowing you to have the nose you’ve always wanted.
