Walk in medical clinics are attractive for a number of reasons: they are affordable, offer care for a wide variety of non-critical illnesses and injuries, and feature convenient after-hours urgent care, with some facilities even offering service 24 hours a day. But as time goes on, urgent medical care is only continuing to progress and improve, with many urgent care facilities adding new services to further benefit their patients.

Take the Utah-based company Medallus Medical, for example, which recently opened its ninth urgent care location in the city of Lehi. The new clinic features a physician-led, full medical team, which offers treatment from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Like all urgent care clinics, no appointment is needed. While the new center will not offer after-hours urgent care, it offers a number of other features that will make it easier for patients to get the care they need. The clinic offers X-rays, minor surgery, drug testing, physicals, occupational health services, and more.

The most interesting new feature is their pre-paid membership program, which is designed to help the uninsured and patients with high-deductibles access to high-quality medical care. For around $25 a month, members receive evaluations and treatment for minor illnesses, acute injuries, infant and pediatric care, annual health screenings, and a free 24-hour telemedicine service. The membership has been a central part of Medallus Medical since the company was founded in 2000. Across the Wasatch Front of Utah, this membership program provides discounted medical care for a variety of clients, with most paying a flat rate of $10 a visit. But while the program itself is unique, this mission and affordability is common in after-hours urgent care clinics across the United States. Can this service help care for your non-life-threatening injury or illness? Contact a walk-in clinic near you to find out!

However, they are not equipped to handle life-threatening or complex medical emergencies.  Some of the most common reasons for emergency room visits include chest pain, head or eye injury, concussion, broken bones, severe burns, seizures, and high fevers. Lesser problems like sprains or strains, flu or cold symptoms, dehydration, or abdominal pain can be treated at an urgent care center. If you don’t know whether to go to an urgent or emergency room, call the urgent care and ask if you should come in there or go to an ER. In recent years, urgent care centers have become a popular solution for communities looking to fill the gap between busy local doctors offices and overwhelmed emergency room care. An urgent care center is designed to handle non-life-threatening medical issues. This can include everything from back pain to the flu.
